English major/Art History minor at Brigham Young University (Provo)

Experience

On the price: I'm pretty flexible on it. There has to be a balance between getting the help you receive and making it affordable to your budget, and I understand that. Just shoot me a message and we'll talk about what works best for you. Note: I am willing to either meet with you on-campus at BYU or travel up to five miles away from campus to meet with you at a public place. If that doesn't work for you, I have Skype and internet access and am more than willing to tutor online. I have tutored through high school, where I predominantly tutored home-schooled children on K-8 subjects, especially elementary English. Since graduating, I have also gained experience tutoring for higher education. Most recently, I edited and critiqued graduate-level papers for a Sociology major, who went on to receive second place on that paper at a sociology conference. The subjects I am most comfortable tutoring at a higher level than elementary are English and History. Besides that, I am comfortable teaching K-8 level subjects, and ACT Prep for English and Reading. If you are a high school student, I am also comfortable tutoring in AP English Literature, English Language, Art History, European History, and US History--especially if you need help with the essay writing in these subjects. The following are my credentials as they relate to my preferred areas of tutoring (English, Social Studies/History, and Art History): State Sterling Scholar Runner-Up in English (2015) Cumulative 30 on ACT: 36 in English, 34 in Reading Received 5 on the following AP courses: AP English Literature, AP English Language, AP Art History Received 4 on the following AP Courses: AP European History, AP US History My philosophy for tutoring is this: every student learns differently. As tutors, it is our responsibility to find a learning technique that works for the student, be it visual aids, hands-on activities, or other methods that work for the student. We must work hard to not only help the student improve in a subject, but help them find an aspect that they love about it. If a student can garner a passion for some area of the subject, then they are much more likely to excel in it. I love helping student find that love and watching their confidence grow as they improve in a subject they once struggled with. Thank you for taking the time to read this. If you are looking for a tutor, I hope I can be a good fit for you and that we can help you get to where you need to be in a subject.

Hobbies

I love reading (especially historical fiction and fantasy), yoga, going to the theater, spending time with friends, and meeting new people. My favorite authors are William Shakespeare, Irving Stone, and Terry Pratchett. The quality I look for most in a book is one that either makes you laugh or cry, and I am always looking for new books to read. Also, I enjoy baking, although I am not very good at it--one of the reasons I do not advertise as in culinary arts :)
