Education

I just graduated from Brigham Young University with an Early Childhood education degree. I'm working on trying to get into a grad school right now, probably for something to do with children's theatre. 3.01 GPA

Experience

I'm a lot better at teaching one on one. I've never had an official job as a tutor, but I've always been able to help friends in classes that they had trouble with. I think that the thing that helps me the most is that I can usually look at something and figure out a different way to explain it, so that the person who is having trouble isn't just hearing the same thing over and over, which obviously that isn't very helpful. Also, since I have a degree in early childhood education, I've had lots of experience working with really young kids. In my opinion, if you can explain something to a little kid, then you can explain it to anyone. Being able to simplify things is a skill that is important in tutoring. I am the sort of person that learns and understands better in a less formal environment, and in smaller groups. I understand how hard it can be to be in a whole class that gets something when you just don't. The ways that I've found to learn can help other people who are in a similar situation. I want to be a tutor for two reasons. One, I need a job. But two, and more importantly, I really enjoying helping people understand things that they have trouble with. I enjoy the "aha" moment they have when they finally get it. In my classroom experiences my favorite thing to help out with was second and third grade reading and math. In older grades, I really enjoy science and history.

Hobbies

I like to do a whole bunch of different things. I really love to read. That's my first hobby. My library is way bigger than a college student's should be. I also love movies of nearly every kind. My sister and I have had entire conversations that consisted of nothing but movie quotes, and they usually make sense too. Along with movies, I like making them. I don't do anything serious with movie making. Mostly we just put together really funny randomness. My sister's name is Jenny, and once i made a move called "Jenny Potter and the Goblet of Girl's camp." I do slideshows of my friends, puppet shows, and sometimes even fake movie trailers. I love puppets. They are so fun. The muppets are my heroes. I love taking pictures, especially of really awesome scenery, like sunsets, or of little kids doing cute stuff. I also like computer games. I'm not obsessive about any of them in particular. I don't get into the whole warcraft thing, or any of that, but I enjoy just getting on and playing monopoly (since most people won't play that with me. It's too long.), or building civilization. Whatever I happen to be in the mood for. I also really like board games. I have a hard time getting people to play with me because I like some of the really long ones like Monopoly, Risk, or Dungeon. (not to be confused with dungeons and dragons.) I do some acting. Not anything really professional, but I'm auditioning for a movie in July. I really like plays the most. When we were little, my sisters, brother, and I would act things out for my mom and dad, including the play within a play from A Midsummer Night's Dream, and the three Billy goats Gruff. Those were our favorites. I've played the flute for 12 1/2 years, and I'm in the process of learning the guitar. I really like music. It's one of the most incredible things to me. I also like a lot of creative stuff. I like to write stories, draw pictures, sculpt in clay, make origami, and do calligraphy. There is a ton of other stuff I do when I hang out with my friends or sisters, but you're more than likely already bored with this already and wondering if I ever have time to do school work with all of the things that I do. I do, though. But my philosophy in life is to avoid stress. You work and do homework much better when you're not freaking out about things. And so I keep a healthy level of relaxing activities handy along with my important work.
